Why Use a Self Check Test for Thyroid Health?

Thyroid Health Test

A simple and reliable finger prick blood spot health check that shows if your TSH levels are normal or high

Thyroid disorders are one of the most prevalent medical conditions in the world, particularly for women, with an increasing number of people suffering from an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).

Symptoms of hypothyroidism

  • Feeling cold, tired and lethargic
  • Constipation, weight gain, dry skin and brittle hair
  • Becoming forgetful and sometimes depressed
  • Women may also experience menstrual irregularities

Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which is secreted by the pituitary gland, regulates and controls the activity of the thyroid gland. A higher than normal TSH level in your blood indicates an underactive thyroid is likely.

The SELFCheck Thyroid Health Test is a rapid immunodiagnostic self test kit for the detection of increased TSH levels (hypothyroidism), from a finger prick blood sample, giving a result in just 10 minutes.

The test kit contains;

  • 1 test device, 1 plastic pipette and 1 desiccant pouch
  • 1 small bottle containing 1ml of diluent
  • 2 sterile lancets to obtain a blood sample
  • 1 instruction leaflet

You will also require a watch or clock with a second hand or a timer, and a clean tissue.

The lancets provided with the SELFCheck Thyroid Health Test are single use. A spare lancet is provided, although should not be required if the instructions are followed as written. A video on how to use the lancets can be seen here.

Understanding Your TSH Levels

A Self Check Test is an easy way to monitor your TSH levels, which is important because it helps you understand how your thyroid is functioning. But why does this matter? The thyroid plays a key role in regulating your metabolism, energy levels, and overall health. So, if your TSH levels are too high or low, it could indicate potential issues that need attention.

Convenience of Home Testing

Using a Self Check Test means you don’t have to visit a doctor's office every time you want to check your thyroid health. Because these tests are designed for home use, they save you time and money. However, it’s still important to consult with a healthcare professional if the results show any abnormalities. This balance between convenience and responsibility ensures better health outcomes.

Empowering Your Health Journey

When you use a Self Check Test regularly, you gain more control over your health journey. You can track changes in your TSH levels over time and make informed decisions about your lifestyle and treatment options. Because knowledge is power, having access to this information allows you to work closely with your doctor to manage your thyroid health effectively.
